MANSFIELD, OH - As part of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, Richland Newhope held their 26th Annual Richland County Third-Grade Coloring Contest as an activity for children to understand and observe people with disabilities in the community.

For the coloring contest, students were asked to color a picture featuring two children, with one of the children using a walker. The theme for this year's coloring contest is "Together, We Have No Limits." 17 pictures were selected as winners of the contest, out of a total of 504 entries from 17 schools, with one winner per school.

"We asked all the students to color this same coloring page," said Jane Imbody, Community Education Director for Richland Newhope. "Today, we invited the winners, their parents, their teacher, their principal, and even their superintendent to come to today's awards luncheon."

The luncheon was held at the Richland Newhope Early Childhood Center, where several special guests such as Shelby Mayor Steven Schag and Miss Ohio's Outstanding Teen Juliana Heichel appeared. Each of the winners received a certificate and gift bag for their contributions to the contest.

"This wouldn't be successful without the help of all of the schools in the area," Imbody said. "By inviting the teachers and principals and superintendents to come, I think they can see that it's a worthwhile event. It is an educational opportunity for the kids, as well as a fun time for them."
