SHELBY, OH - Pioneer Career and Technology Center's culinary arts instructor, Chef Seth Weibel, was awarded the 2019 Ohio ProStart Teacher of Excellence Award at this year's ProStart Invitational in February.

The award recognizes exceptional educators who are deeply dedicated to the ProStart program, and Chef Wiebel certainly qualifies. His resume is 21 years long; after working in catering, working with skilled chefs, and opening six of his own restaurants, he decided to teach. He has been teaching for ten years and says it is the best job he has ever had.

"I always wanted to share that knowledge that I'd gained from those different places and different chefs with the next generation coming up. That's what I love to do," Weibel said.

Weibel was chosen out of 78 chefs from 57 career centers in Ohio. Now he is a candidate for the National Educator of Excellence Award, which will be awarded at the National ProStart Invitational in Washington this May.

"It's great to be recognized by peers and others in the state... you know, trophies can be trophies, but where I get my joy is seeing my kids succeed rather than me. I'd rather see them get awards and move on to bigger and better things. That's where I get my reward," Weibel said.

Pioneer Career and Technology Center serves high school juniors and seniors by providing over 35 vocational training programs. Students carry these valuable skills with them well beyond graduation and into their respective careers. Pioneer will be celebrating 50 years of educational excellence on March 29th.
