D.A.R.E. Students Celebrated At Drug Free Olympic Games

MANSFIELD, OH- The FOP Lodge 32 Drug-Free Olympic Games at Malabar Schools on Saturday, celebrated students who have graduated from local D.A.R.E. programs.

Officer Keith Swisher of the Shelby Police Department said that the event was a great way to celebrate the students' accomplishments in the D.A.R.E Program.

"It was really an opportunity for the kids to compete and show their proud spirit with their schools," Officer Swisher said. represent their schools in the positive way that we teach these to be good citizens and to work with each other and to just be great teammates and just go out and have a great time today," Officer Swisher said.

D.A.R.E. is a valuable tool in Elementary and Middle Schools to help students make positive choices according to Officer Orlando Chatman of the Mansfield Police Department.  The event served as a fun way for students to compete with each other in a fun and supportive environment.

"Any time they have the opportunity to compete, and they heard about trying to break records and stuff, these kids they have incredible competitive drives and we wanted to give them an opportunity to showcase their talents," Officer Chatman said.

Deputy Hosey from The Richland County Sheriff's Office said that overall, the students had a great time at the event.

"I was talking to them at lunch, if they weren't here today, out here participating, they'd probably have been sitting at home on the couch, playing video games, so we'd rather have them out here," Deputy Hosey said.
