MANSFIELD, OH- The new Akron Children's Health Center at 1029 S. Trimble Road in Mansfield held their ribbon cutting and open house on Saturday.

President and CEO of Akron Children's Hospital, Grace Wakulchik, said that the new building provides a state of the art facility with many different pediatric services.

"We're really excited to provide pediatric services in one location here for the citizens and families of Mansfield," Wakulchik said.  "It really consolidates primary care, specialty care, urgent care, rehab services, and also lab and radiology services."

The one-story, 32,350 square foot building was constructed by The Adena Corporation.  CEO Randy Payne said that he was happy to be a part of the project.

"Locally, it means a lot.  Adena is located here in Mansfield for the past 37 years, so being a part of this project locally, it means a lot," Payne said.  "It's nice that Akron chose us to be a part of this."

Akron Children's Hospital patient, Brooklynn Koeller and her mother Tabetha were featured at the ribbon cutting.  Brooklynn was born with a cleft palate and Pierre Robin sequence.  Akron Children's Hospital has been a huge part of the family's life for the past four years according to Tabetha.

"I don't know where we would be at without the facilities or just the care," Koeller said.

The new Mansfield facility means that families like the Koellers have access to vital medical care a lot closer to home.

"Having facilities close to home means we get to spend time more with family instead of in a car, or in a hospital," Koeller said.

Richard McCready of the Raemelton Development Corporation said that the new facility along with other development in the area helps to enhance the lives of Richland County families.

"I can't tell you how many people have commented that you know, it's an all-day deal to go from here to Akron or here to Columbus, and with this, it just cuts that time back, and there's a lot of smiles, a lot of happy people," McCready said.

Dr. Bob Burns, Dr, Erin Fain, and Dr. Mark Redding are Pediatricians at Akron Children's Hospital.  They are all pleased with the new facility and excited to start seeing patients on Tuesday.

"This just makes a huge difference and it's just such a beautiful place.  It's so welcoming and I think it makes families and the community feel special about getting the care," Dr. Redding said.  "It's an amazing blessing for our community."
