ASHLAND, OH - Several agencies responded to the call of a single vehicle accident at the 193.4 mile marker of I-71 north Thursday afternoon.

Traffic was at a near standstill in the northbound lane of I-71 as crews clear the scene. The driver, 24-year-old Clara Miller of Ashland, along with passengers Dave Rinehart and April Atieone, escaped with only minor injuries despite Atieone admitting to not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol witnesses told authorities that the car appeared to have malfunctioned. The vehicle may have broken a tire rod or had a similar malfunction, resulting in the vehicle being forced off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle spun and struck the median barrier and a nearby storm drain, coming to rest in the middle of the median. While the car was moderately damaged, all passengers inside recieved only minor injuries.

Town and Country Fire and EMS from West Salem and Ashland Fire Department and EMS were both on the scene, along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
