MANSFIELD, OH - A Mansfield resident has been selected for a state honor.

Genny D. Reed, of Mansfield, Ohio, will be indcuted by the Ohio Department of Aging into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame during a ceremony that will be held on Thursday, May 30th at the Statehouse Atrium in Columbus, Ohio.

Reed is one of 12 Ohioans being inducted this year for lifetime of contributions and accomplishments.

"Older Ohioan's diversity, values, insight, and experiences throughout their lives have helped to shape their communities," said Ursel J. McElroy, director of the Ohio Department of Aging. "Ms. Reed spent her life and career working to ensure that those under her care were treated with dignity and respect. She continues to do so today, going above and beyond as an advocate for residents' rights."

Reed was an administrator and medical practice consultant in a skilled nursing facility for nearly 30 years. Following her career, she connected with the regional Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program based in Mansfield, Ohio. After three years as a volunteer, she took additional training to become certified as an ambudsman specialist.

Reed has contributed more than 7,300 hours of volunteer service to the ombudsman program and has been recognized by the State Long-Term Ombudsman as a volunteer contributing the most hours assisting with consumer complaints.

The 12 senior citizens will be recognized by peers, The Ohio General Assembly, Governor Mike DeWine and members of his cabinet, the Ohio Association of Area Agencies on Aging, and leaders from Ohio's aging network.

The Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame was established in 1977 to honor Ohioans age 60 and older for achievements and contributions to others, the roles they play in their communities, state and nation, and for what they do to promote productive and enjoyable lives.
