MANSFIELD, OH - One person who passed away from the ATV Crash that occurred earlier this week has been identified.

One victim was identified as Jeffery L. Thomas, age 63 of Columbus, according to the Richland County Coroners Office.

The identity of the second victim has not been confirmed at this time, as the Coroners Office are still in the process of locating next of kin.

Authorities responded to a fatal accident on US-30 near the OH-545 exit on Monday, which backed up traffic for over 30 minutes as motorists were forced to detour around the accident scene.

At approximately 4:47 PM Monday afternoon, the Mansfield Division of Police responded to reports of an ATV accident on US-30 Westbound between 5th Avenue and State Route 545.

After an investigation it was found that a 2017 Polaris 4x4 with two male occupants was traveling southeast in a grass field in the area of 781 5th Avenue, which is above U.S 30. The ATV traveled on the grass where it then drove off the edge of the cliff and fell approximately thirty-nin feet and landed in the ditch near the right lane on U.S 30 Westbound.

After landing in the ditch the ATV overturned and came to rest on it's top in the right lane of U.S 30 Westbound.

One occupant was found in the ditch and the other occupant was found underneath the ATV and was also partially ejected.

Both occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Richland County Coroners Office.

All traffic was rerouted onto 5th Avenue around the accident as investigations went on. Further details regarding the accident will be released at a later time. The Mansfield Division of Police is asking witnesses of the accident to call Detective Richard Clapp at 419-755-9470. The investigation is ongoing and details to this story will be updated as they become available.
