MARION, OH- A one vehicle crash killed a 42-year old man in Marion on Friday night.

James Gates of Marion was driving his 2004 BMW coupe east on State Route 739 at approximately 11:40pm.

The Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says that Gates failed to negotiate a curve and went off of the right side of the road.  He hit a mailbox, a traffic sign, a utility pole, and a culvert, then ended up overturning and striking a tree. The BMW came to rest on its top.

Marion Township EMS transported Gates to Marion General Hospital.  He was then flown by Med Flight to Grant Medical Center in Columbus where he was pronounced dead.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Marion County Sheriff's Department, Marion Township Fire Department and EMS, and Buckeye Collision Towing were all on the scene.  The crash is currently under investigation.
